Torri Superiore is a labyrinthine village of spiralling stairs & narrow passages, built from the local limestone in 1300. In this cosy & creative atmosphere, you will create an Original Painting under the expert guidance of an Experienced Artist…

In order to satisfy the increased demand from our sold-out Summer Seminar, we have now created a special 10-day Spring Seminar. Under the supervision of Amanda Sage, you will learn her unique variation of the Mischtechnik.

Tuition for the course includes 12 nights of Full Accommodation in 1 or 2 bedroom apartments with 3 full meals per day.

Each Student brings their own Unique Talent to the Seminar. …Yoga, Chanting, Live Music ~ the opportunity for leading or participating in our group activities is endless.

The hill-top eco-village of Torri Superiore is a small community where the inhabitants live in harmony with their environment, practicing Permaculture & Sustainable Living. We will become part of village life ~ sharing in communal meals prepared by the local chef from fresh and mostly organic ingredients grown in the surrounding fields…

Our primary focus will be on creating a painting from start to finish, following the step-by-step method of the Mischtechnik. This early European painting technique, which mixes oil and water-based media, was revived by Ernst Fuchs in the 1950’s and is currently in the midst of a new revival through the international Visionary Art scene.

This method is highly conducive to expressing transcendental subjects and rendering visions. Fundamentals of the Mischtechnik have been adopted by many painters working with fantastic and visionary subject matter, as the transparencies and use of light in developing a painting are exquisite.

The power of transmission, when in a focused environment and in a group, is nothing short of magical.

Acquire the Tools to Manifest your Vision

Amanda is committed to supporting each participant to achieve greater depth in their lives and their work. This course will help you become more clear of your path, strengthen your painting skills and empower your truth.

Developing a Mischtechnik painting from the initial drawing to the final stages in oil, you will learn:

  • To explore the use of various materials, such as charcoal, ink, acrylic, casein and oil colors, through presentations, hands-on experience and coaching
  • To expand your tool belt of skills in basic drawing and painting, as well as getting deeper in touch with what you really want to express through your art
  • To study nature and natural law as a foundation for revealing new perspectives
  • To listen to the painting
  • This course will give you tools for creating balanced, harmonic work as well as the tools for life

Amanda explains:
“The time that we spend in creative union is one of the most valuable things we can do for our own healing and living a healthy life. Making Art is not something that is only limited to painting, drawing, sculpture… I believe it is a WAY of life, a perspective, a lens through which we have the choice to live in this life. We will begin by observing what is, expanding our outer lens. As we push the boundaries of what can be, we will draw in the visionary realms of infinite potential.”

The Studio Environment

Amanda Sage teaches in the same way that she approaches her own work, with an open heart and deep commitment. She is present each day to support you in the manifestation and expression of your own personal vision.

The collective magic that happens when international artists come together is extraordinary.

You do not need to have prior knowledge of painting or the Mischtechnik to attend this class.

Your passion and desire to participate is most important. For those who have already studied the Mischtechnik, these 10 days you will deepen your knowledge and practice while expanding the lens of possibilities within your own work.

About Amanda Sage

Amanda Sage is an artist using her painting as a tool for spiritual and planetary growth and transformation.
Her paintings represent multidimensional aspects of humanness in harmonious balance, inspiring a re-membering of an energetic inter-connectedness that is present and shared with all things.
In 1997 she apprenticed for 2 years in classical painting techniques with Michael Fuchs in Vienna Austria.
This led to becoming a painting assistant to Ernst Fuchs, founder of Fantastic Realism, for 10 years while developing her own style and portfolio as a resident artist at the culture house WUK in Vienna.
Since 2009 she has been based in Los Angeles and influential in networking artists and initiatives while hosting workshops, lecturing and exhibiting world wide.

Each student will be invited to do a self portrait as the base for the main piece and a second practice panel. If you would prefer to work on another subject matter as your main piece, please bring a drawing of your composition.
Also bring references you would like to include in your work, either printed out or as photo’s on your tablet or phone.

Students with no prior experience ~ have no fear! ~ these techniques are very forgiving, allowing changes & alterations at each layer. We accept students at all levels of experience.

Participants should bring their own Paints & Brushes (we will also have a set of oils on hand). We will provide the easels, the prepared panels, the ingredients for making the painting mediums, and for washing brushes. A list of recommended colors & brushes is included here: Required Materials.

It is our intention to create a sacred space, which allows all to flourish in their unique expression. Join us for a fun & creative journey together!

Torri Superiore is unique: a small hilltop village that consists of one labyrinthine building built on five varying levels and containing some 162 different vaulted chambers. The Associazione Culturale Torri Superiore has established its small community through a world-vision based on sustainable agriculture & permacultural design.

Torri Superiore’s Cultural Association is happy to host our painting seminar, providing us with a studio space while offering students full accommodation (a bed plus breakfast, lunch & dinner). Since most participants are struggling artists or students on a tight budget, we have taken great pains to find accommodation that is both interesting & affordable.

Torri Superiore is an Eco ~Village that aims for sustainable living; their prices are reasonable & variable. Since most of the food is grown organically and shared communally, the price of accommodation includes breakfast, lunch & dinner (which will always include a vegetarian option ~ Raw, Vegan or gluten-free diets can also be accommodated).

Accommodation is in Old European-style Apartments. Most Apartments contain 2 separate bedrooms plus a bathroom, though some are shared rooms. These thick-walled, vaulted chambers have plenty of character, and some have balconies overlooking the Ligurian hills.

Since this is the Spring Seminar, we will take full advantage of the beautiful Alpine setting. Students can go hiking along trails in the mountains and visit the fresh-water Swimming Grotto (which, unfortunately, is too cold to swim in at this time of year…). All meals may be enjoyed on the large terrace overlooking the treed hillside…

Students will also have the opportunity to learn and experience Sustainable Living. Permaculture is a form of long-term planning in which an integrated model of life is developed so flora, fauna & humanity may interact harmoniously & holistically. The Associazione Culturale Torri Superiore is a founding member of the Italian Permaculture Academy and belongs to the Global Eco-village Network; it has no religious or political affiliations.

The number of Activities is endless, depending on what you, the student, can bring to the group. Nevertheless, a steady stream of events seems to happen spontaneously and almost effortlessly.

In previous seminars, one student led a Yoga Class, another gave Tai Chi lessons, and a third formed a Chanting Circle. Music was our constant companion, with impromptu collaborations between students, guests & residents. One night a group of musicians from Naples gave a concert of Tarantellas while the seminar students came up with a Live Painting. We’ve had Guided Visualizations, Drumming Circles, Trance Parties, Pizza Nights & Midnight Walks through the Alpine Hills. Torri Superiore is blessed to have a stunningly beautiful Swimming Grotto close by, where students can get in touch with Nature’s majesty & grandeur.

Italian Beer is readily available through the ‘trust fridge’ and wine may be purchased with the meal. Sitting on the large balcony overlooking the beautiful hills, conversation lasted late into the night. Sunsets were spent at the Village Ruins atop the hill, and painting in the studio went on all through the night.

The Students demonstrated how Visionary Art is indeed an international phenomenon. They have hailed from such diverse places as Argentina, India, Brazil, the Sinai desert, Australia, Turkey, Malta, New Zealand, & all quarters of Europe and the U.S.A (from Scandanavia to the Mediterranean; from Long Island to Hawaii). Each brought the distinctive taste of their own culture with them, and offered a global perspective on the present transformation of world-consciousness.

At the end, a Farewell Party is always held, including an Exhibition of the students’ works. The friendships forged during the seminar lasted long afterward.

The possibilities are endless…
