The 2025 Fall Seminar at Torri Superiore

~ RECOMMENDED MATERIALS ~

THE ACADEMY PROVIDES:

• All easels, chairs and small tables to put your paint

• Two 40 cm x 60 cm (16" x 24") stretched canvases

• (If you prefer to work on another size, you can bring your own gessoed panel or canvas)

• The ingredients for egg tempera, casein & glazing mediums

• Brush cleaning solvent, soap, rags & paper towels

• Transfer paper

• Tracing paper, vine charcoal & masking tape

• Spray diffusers, also called mouth atomizers (see below)

THE STUDENTS BRING:

• Their teachers' recommended brushes

* Their teachers' recommended oil & acrylic colours

• We strongly advise you to buy a selection of the recommended paints and brushes below (Brands depend on which country you are in - find something equivalent).

• For your artistic future, we recommend that you buy high quality oil paints & brushes ~ these will last much longer and allow you to continue painting after the seminar.

• But, don't panic if you don't have every colour! The Academy will have a selection of oil & acrylic colours available as a back-up.

• The recommended palettes

• A palette knife

• A sketchbook, pencils, ruler & eraser

• A small image, talisman or piece of Nature for the altar

RECOMMENDED BRANDS OF PAINTS

Please make sure to buy Golden Fluid Acrylics
4 oz size (118 ml) for Titanium White and the rest of the colours in 1 oz size (30 ml) will be sufficient

RECOMMENDED BRUSHES FOR THE SEMINAR:

All brushes should be high quality synthetic
One thin and one wide sized Angle brush
One large flat brush
Linear brush
Filbert brush
Round brush
Detail brush

PALETTE:

• I highly recommend you bring a Stay-Wet palette (such as Masterson's Sta-Wet) which will prevent your acrylics from drying out. Remember to bring extra acrylic paper refills.

These come in bottles, not tubes.
4 oz size (118 ml) for Titanium White and the rest of the colours in 1 oz size (30 ml)

~ DANIEL MIRANTE'S RECOMMENDATIONS ~

MEDIUM

• The Academy will supply the materials for tempera grassa, casein and the glazing medium

• However, you are welcome to bring your own tube of Richeson Casein Paint - the Shiva Series - in Titanium White

BASIC COLOURS

We will use a split primary palette, which means a warm & cold version of the yellow, red & blue primaries, plus some earth pigments along with black and white

The Split Primary Palette:

Lemon Yellow or Hansa Yellow or Chrome Yellow or Cobalt Yellow Aureolin (primrose yellow)
Gamboge Yellow or Indian Yellow (its more orangey than the yellow above)
Pyrolle Red / Naphtol Red
Quinacridone Magenta
Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Turquoise / Teal or Phthalocyanine Turquoise
